Servers are not what they used to be. Virtualisation is the new buzz word within the world of servers and server farms. Not a new concept but certainly a new take on it, Microsoft has joined in the grand scheme of things with their new offering Virtual Server 2005 R2 and better still it’s Free! Virtualisation has been around for thirty odd years for workstations and only around 5 years for servers but what is all the hype about? Virtualisation is the new concept behind server rooms and we think it’s definitely the future; it gives system administrators and obviously the organisations massive benefits when designing and rolling out server platforms. Virtualisation allows a single server unit to run multiple server platforms and also allowing the server platforms to perform different tasks independently. Server rooms used to be full of servers (strangely enough) but now there are normally just a single server but this server is as expected a powerhouse.
